Since convention memes are the only thing I post nowadays, have another one:

Going to Anthrocon this year? So am I! ^^

Before we begin, let me do a brief announcement:

Preamble
Just so everyone knows, this might actually be my last Anthrocon for a while. Sorry. :( I love this convention, but now that I've moved countries, I find that I have to invest many of my vacation days in visiting family and friends in the homeland. My increasing involvement in the European fandom, such as NordicFuzzCon, is consuming a lot of time and resources as well.

The bottom line is, this might be our last opportunity to meet before who-knows-when. If you want to see me, take the chance!

How are you getting there?
Road trip from Philadelphia with giza.

Which days will you be attending?
I'm in Pittsburgh from late Tuesday until mid Monday.

Where are you staying, and with whom?
First with Giza at the Westin, then with Natalie at the Omni.

Texting my US cell phone is by far the best way to reach me, since I plan to buy unlimited texting for the duration of the con.
As soon as I have my new US number (which will be today or tomorrow), it will be posted at the beginning of this journal.

Text messages aside, Twitter DM is the second best means of contact, or placing a call in urgent situations. (Sending FA PMs might work too, but I am only likely to read those once a day or so.)

Hi all,

Yes, I'll be at Eurofurence this year, sharing a room with giza. I arrive on Wednesday 20th and leave on Monday 25th. For any other information, consult my previous "convention meme" journals. :)

If anyone wants to meet up during the convention, just let me know!

I plan to get a temporary German SIM for text messaging and Internet connectivity during the convention. One use case is texting me to arrange meetups or joint meals. ;) I'll update this journal with my new number as soon as it's operational.

I've found this year's digital schedule offerings hard to use, so I don't have a canonical list yet.

The fursuit photo world record attempt is a given, as is the parade, and Yappy's fursuit friendly dance set. I'll also be at Opening Ceremonies, the Look Left concert, Matthew Ebel (halioffirpine)'s concert, and unclekage's story hour.

I will likely attend more panels than these, but this is what I know so far.

Having followed the fandom for quite some time, I've seen many mascot and fursuit videos. Along the way, I've come across some great ones: videos that were funny, adorable, exciting, spectacular, cool, unusual, or otherwise entertaining.

Very rarely, however, would I use the phrase "thought-provoking" to describe a costumed character video. This clip is the brilliant, shining exception:

I'm surprised I haven't seen more of these, but this is my recollection:


Ten years ago today I went into a movie theater, and came back out to a different world. It was eerily palpable how everything had somehow shifted. Everyone felt it. The now had turned into a perpetual after, in which we still live.

This world has lost its innocence more times than anyone can count. Ten years ago, it did so again. Thousands of lives were lost on that day, but the casualties extend far beyond that: this place has never been the same since.
